Survey Follow Up
Matt Moyer, STARFLEET CompOps, came out and responded to the post about the surveys. I cross-posted some of what I wrote here to that list, including a link to the PDF survey I posted today. I urged folks that have not received CQ #146 or the survey to fill it out and send it in ASAP to let their voice be heard.
Just to be clear, I have no real qualms with Matt Moyer. He has always been a straight shooter with me directly and he is the only member of the Executive Committee that posts on STARFLEET-L and is communicative in any way. I kind of feel for Matt, really.
Anyway, Matt writes on STARFLEET-L:
For those with internet access the survey can also be completed online at http://survey.sfi.org
Umm.. no. Sean Niemeyer discovered, and replied:
“This online survey is currently closed. Please contact cs@sfi.org for further assistance.”
Woops. No survey. FAIL!
Yeah, we know how useful that can be. Sal’s auto responder will answer you telling you you’ll get an answer in 96 hours. Seriously, try it. EPIC FAIL!
So my question to Matt Moyer and the rest of the Executive Committee is simple.
Any idea why, if this survey is so important to the administration and also so time critical, this is the first we’ve heard of it?
- It’s mentioned nowhere on the SFI.ORG home page.
- I am a member of my regional list. Nothing there.
- Maybe a blurb on the Database news section? Hmm… nope.
- It was not on the Announcements list. It was not in the RSS feed from SFI.
Are those not “official” channels?
Also interesting, the running opinion on the FleetChat #starfleet channel is that this survey is mostly useless. Can the results be trusted? Will the EC take a hard look at the answers and make an informed decision? Or will the witch hunts and drumhead tribunals continue?
I also heard tonight that JC Cohen stepped down a while back as the guy responsible for surveys by the EC to poll the membership. I wonder why? It has been speculated that one of the reasons JC resigned as pollster is that he had no faith it would be assessed objectively.
This survey doesn’t seem so important if it’s kept secret. Hey, maybe if STARFLEET had an “official” listserve that people can subscribe to for announcements like this. Oh, wait…
FAIL EC, u r doing it wrong!

While I do doubt that the results will be assessed objectively, my resigns for resigning are much simpler.
Sal outright lied to me. We were talking on the phone and he said one thing.
Then he got on the FLEET list and said the opposite.
I’ve probably worked for liars before, but felt no need to do so this time.
