Soundtrack of Fail Volume 2

No Gravatar

The “Soundtrack of Fail” I added several weeks ago was fun. We ended up with over 30 songs. But the playlist is getting a little stale. Even on “shuffle” and almost 40 tracks, I think it may be time to start Volume 2.

So let’s see some suggestions for the second list. Post in the comments. I’ll assemble the playlist and when I get 15 or so, I’ll switch them out, but I’ll keep a link up to Volume 1.

I am trying to go with a theme of “Money” or lyrics that talk about money. I also sprinkled in a few oddities to fill it out, though I can lose them if we get enough requests.

Has someone already added “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears and “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen?

    Paralyzer by Finger Eleven

    Tim: added… good choices.

Scott: AWESOME track. I never knew the name of the song or the band. I rarely listen to “new music” as Sturgeon’s Law usually applies.

I have been meaning to add it to my karaoke playlist. I like to keep some some current stuff in there, you never know what the crowd will be like.

I am also looking at tracks about money or money in the lyrics…

“Money (That’s What I Want)” has been covered by various, including the Beatles, but I like the version by the Flying Lizards (it’s on the soundtrack of Empire Records).

You talk about things that nobody cares
You’re wearing out things that nobody wears
You’re calling my name but you gotta make clear
I can’t say baby where I’ll be in a year

At least this stanza of Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion” applies to some of the message traffic on various e-lists and fora, methinks.

Added “Sweet Emotion”… could not get the Empire Records cut of “Money (That’s What I Want) but I found a more modern cut on a Motown tribute album by Boys II Men.

How about ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ by Shania Twain for the Country fans?

Some of “the good ol’ days” of my tenure in STARFLEET weren’t always so good, but I often think of Nickelback’s “Photograph” in connection with some of those good times.

However, I’m also reminded of my checkered past in the organization by The Eagles’ “Wasted Time”, from the Hotel California album (incidentally, the first album I ever bought with my own money).

I’m just geek enough to have maroon leather photo albums (with gold lettering) of the STARFLEET chapters I was in during the 90’s…

One of those albums has the lyrics from Toad the Wet Sprocket’s “All I Want”, which include the lines:

All I want is to feel this way
To be this close, to feel the same
All I want is to feel this way….

Added all three… I think we’re ready! I’ll move it to the sidebar…

Were you to do a soundtrack, volume 3, I’d suggest “It’s My Life” (originally done in the 80’s by Talk Talk and covered a couple of years ago by Gwen Stefani). Its lyrics include:

    Funny how I blind myself
I never knew if I was sometimes played upon
    Afraid to lose,
I’d tell myself what good you do
    Convince myself

    It’s my life
    Don’t you forget
    It’s my life
    It never ends

As for songs with the theme of money and acquisition, there’s the classic “Money” by Pink Floyd.

I can always add one more… and Pink Floyd’s “Money” is in there already.
