Slight retraction

It has come to my attention that the surveys sent with CQ #146 were the exact same survey that was posted on http://survey.sfi.org several weeks ago. Apparently, this was a mailing to make sure those without computer and net access had an opportunity to respond.

This is not necessarily a Bad Thing™. So to be fair, I want to say that the administration did, in fact, make an attempt to cover all the bases and let folks be heard. They just did so poorly.

I just wish that we had known about the mailed surveys. I still have not received my CQ#146. So if I don’t print and mail the one I posted online, I won’t make the deadline.

Also, I heard some folks say the survey was simply tucked in to the folded CQ. It was not inserted INTO the issue, just inside the fold. That was not secure, the survey could simply fall out. If it were to be included correctly, it probably should have been PUBLISHED in the CQ, or at the very least the flier inserted into the issue at the publisher and not after. That way delivery and receipt would be more likely.

Not to mention the mere delay of the CQ mailing. We’ve already established that the CQ is not the most efficient way to get “important” stuff delivered to the membership. If it were really that important, a separate mailing should have been authorized. I mean, “The Threats to STARFLEET” was mailed out at a cost of nearly $900 to the organization. Why not the survey?
