FLEETWATCH for 26 SEPT 2008

As promised, here is a list of all AB resolutions from the Acting IG, LGN Wade Hoover. Notice that the information lacks who voted how and we are entitled to know how our elected representatives on the AB are voting. I hope that in the interest of fairness, those votes will be listed in the future.

We all have a right to know how our RC’s are voting on these critical issues

Admiral Johnathan Simmons
Director, FLEETWATCH
A division of Section 31

Please cross post as necessary

As part of my duties as Inspector General, I am tasked with tallying the votes of the AB, and reporting these votes to the AB.  This has not been done, and while I have only been in the position for a short time, I must apologize for the failure of this office, and this will be rectified.

Below is the list of all AB votes for this year, as well as the vote totals.  For the complete text of the resolutions, as a full vote record, broken down by Region, as well as who motioned and seconded (as

The breakdown of voting is included in the PDF in the link provided.

Thanks to Aaron Murphy for cluing me in on that.

    Question

Why is a basic parliamentary procedure ending debate - often referred to as “Calling the Previous Question” in and of itself an AB Resolution? Resolutions are supposed to handle substansive matters, not the individual microworkings of Roberts Rules of Order, otherwise you’d have an AB resolution everytime a recess is called, or someone calls for a Roll Call vote.

I was told that Garrick was the one who numbered the resolutions, has he ever read Roberts Rules of Order?

  3. Ed NowlinNo Gravatar Says:

Funny you should mention that…Ask Chrissy about the RC’s “survival guide” that Garrick “wrote” and submitted to the AB…

  4. Tony RowleyNo Gravatar Says:

I don’t think that very many on either the EC or the AB have actually ever read Robert’s Rules of Order.

  5. Mike HeniganNo Gravatar Says:

I would hazard to say you are right Tony. If they even know what they are !

My question is about AB08-04….the actual votes was 8-0-8, so did they move one vote over into the yeah column as Abstentions go with the majority?

  6. Wade HooverNo Gravatar Says:

    Mike,

I don’t know where you got your information, but according to the ABVote-L archive, the vote for AB08-04 was 09:00:07, however, that could change to 11:00:05 once I have had the chance to go through Robert’s files, as apparently Robert was having E-mail problems, and there may have been votes sent privately to him that are not in the offical vote record.

Wade, MIkeH is talking about http://historian.sfi.org/AB/Vote%20on%20AB08-04.pdf

where the vote clearly shows 08:00:08

maybe there is a mistake on that page

  8. Mike HeniganNo Gravatar Says:

Thanks Scott, you beat me to it. Yes I was looking at how people voted on the history page and realized that there was the same amount of people who abstained as those who voted yeah. Go figure ;)

  9. Wade HooverNo Gravatar Says:

Well, instead of attacking my reporting in this venue, someone could have pointed out the error (and yes, it is an error). The vote was 09:00:07 as reported in the announcement post.

Thank you for pointing it out (although I would ahve appriciiated at least the courtesy of an E-mail pointing this out, instead of using this venue)

I will correct the document now.

    Wade,

I beg to differ SIR, I did not attack your reporting. I have the upmost faith in your abilities and willingness to do your position.

I simply asked if there was some rukle about a tie like that. Never crossed my mind that it was a mistake or en error.

My apologies if it came across as you saw it. :(

    Mike

Yet no one came to me to address the situation. It has been discussed in back room circles about the votes being changed, but no one did even the basic checking to contact the one that reported the results, to see if there may have been an error.

But then, it doesn’t surprise me that those that are opposed to Sal and his administration won’t give the even the benifit of a doubt that an error in reporting has occured.

  12. Mike HeniganNo Gravatar Says:

    Wade,

I said very nicely I was NOT attacking you, I simply asked if there was a rule about the voting.

I even apologized for not asking in the right place or person, namely you.

Now, however it is YOU who is slinging mud at me because I asked a simple question of folks here,

I am SORRY I never asked you directly, I made a mistake in not asking you, ARE YOU FRAKKING HAPPY NOW?

  13. Mike HeniganNo Gravatar Says:

I am sorry I list my temper, Wade, but you are jumping down my ass for asking yes, a SIMPLE question.

There are very knowledgeable folks here and I was asking to see if I was interpreting the vote wrong is all, nothing more, nothing less.

    NO attacking anyone or anything.

  14. Mike HeniganNo Gravatar Says:

Now I need to go play WOW, I need to KILL things….

  15. GumbyNo Gravatar Says:

Once again, one of Sal’s chosen proves why members and chapters are leaving STARFLEET.

    Thanks!

  16. Mike HeniganNo Gravatar Says:

    Ya know,

All of the crap with fleet these days has me seriously thinking about leaving. I have weathered many, many flare ups with the administrations over the last 20 years, but this one has me at wits end.

To date, I have posted 2 reports (about to be my 3rd) about trouble with my membership roles, and not one person on the EC or EC staffs has replied or tried to explain what happened.

    I simply is sad.
