Vice Admiral Garrick Halverson, Vice Commander, STARFLEET, has been chosen as STARFLEET Fail’s 2008 “Asshat of the year.” Garrick’s accomplishments are many:

• Putting together a secret committee to “reform” STARFLEET’s Constitution
• Advocating in said reform package to dilute the authority of the Admiralty Board to serve as a check and balance to the Commander, STARFLEET and his cronies.
• While discussing with the United States State Department on why STARFLEET should be entitled to ignore an embargo against Cuba, Garrick cites “Gene Roddenberry’s Dream” and the principles of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations (IDIC). To the State Department!
• Insulting members in numerous ways, talking down to members in a condescending manner on his own Vice Commander’s website.
• Bringing back Pet Fleet. Yay!
• Standing idly by while member rights are trampled.
• Standing idly by while over $7000 have been spent on lawyers.
• Citing the need for a “rah rah” listserve for STARFLEET members
• Working “Cheny Style” in an undisclosed (and also unreachable) location since taking office.

Congratulations, Herr Halverson! For those that believed that Fleet Admiral Sal Lizard should have gotten the award, well, damn! That would have been way too easy. Garrick really worked hard for it, that’s for sure. That’s OK, I don’t think Sal is too upset about losing out, do you?
